 expository text features, academic vocabulary for expository text, important social issues, identifying the controlling idea and most important supporting details, and using connotation to understand the author's purpose and important vocabulary within a text; analyzing and annotating text

Activities:  

1.  Review Newsela article scores and reading levels
2.  Complete/Turn in "Expository Close Reading" 
3.  OER for Close Read article:  "What tools does the writer use to make the article more accessible to the reader?  (What does the writer do that makes the article more interesting or easier to understand for the reader?)  
4.  Expository Letter To santa for "Make a Wish" Foundation
5.  My Vocabulary Booklet due December 10th
