January 8/9

Objectives:  Students will (1) analyze the syntax/grammatical structure of a model sentence;  (2) use listening skills to identify most important details of a myth, paraphrase the myth in writing and write the message in complete sentence.  (3) write about the previously researched topic; (4) watch and analyze a media documentary for the author's purpose, organization, and types of appeal


Activities:

(1) Copy model sentence 1 into grammar notes and analyze syntax of sentence.
(2) Brain dump researched material
(3)  listen to "Ares and Athena", paraphrase, discuss and answer the question "What two sides or war are revealed through the Greek gods Ares (pathos) and Athena (logos)?" and introduce types of appeal
(4)  Watch the documentary "The Lost Boys" (click on link to view video) 60 Minutes Part I (12 minutes) and complete critical thinking questions
